CULTURE NEWS

  • Angelo State University music faculty will perform with Trio Aurora this Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building (2602 Dena Drive) (the concert is free and open to the public) as a preview of their upcoming Opus One event.  FOX West Texas

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Irion County ISD increased campus security Wednesday after reports of a possible threat outside the county—officials confirmed no direct threat but acted out of caution. The district worked with law enforcement agencies—Irion County, Tom Green County, and the Texas Department of Public Safety—to protect students and staff.  San Angelo LIVE!

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Texas Parks and Wildlife personnel surveyed O.C. Fisher Reservoir at San Angelo State Park and found that heavy rain in July raised the lake from under 1% capacity last year to about 15% today, while fish restocking efforts have produced healthy bluegill sunfish and gizzard shad along with rapidly growing fingerling Lone Star Bass. Officials expect legal-sized largemouth bass by spring—an indicator of improved conditions for anglers.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Houston Harte Expressway remains closed between Main and Bell since Oct 1 for drainage repairs from July 4 flood damage—City officials installed a temporary traffic signal at Bell and Hughes on Oct 15 to manage detour traffic—and drivers are advised to expect delays and use designated routes until TxDOT finishes repairs expected this winter.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Fifteen immigrants from six countries became United States citizens Wednesday morning at the O.C. Fisher Federal Building when U.S. Magistrate Judge John R. Parker presided over the naturalization ceremony. A second ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. today for applicants from Cambodia, Nepal, the Philippines, Thailand, and Mexico.  San Angelo LIVE!

HEALTH NEWS

  • State Rep. Drew Darby urged Texans to vote YES on Proposition 14, which will create the state-funded Dementia Prevention and Research Institute of Texas to research Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and related diseases—early voting starts Oct 20 with the vote set for Nov 4.  San Angelo LIVE!

SPORTS NEWS

  • The No. 2 Wall Hawks will travel Friday at 7 p.m. to play the Coahoma Bulldogs as the undefeated team relies on strong defense — led by senior defensive end Dylan Sellers and senior defensive tackle Koen Braden — to boost its state championship hopes.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Three Navy SEALs will skydive onto the field during the Angelo State University football game on Nov. 8 at 6 p.m.—the event is a fundraiser by the SEAL Legacy Foundation to support families of fallen and wounded SEALs with help from the Kappa Sigma chapter of ASU aiming to raise $20,000.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Angelo State baseball team is set to host its annual Fall World Series today at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium & admission is free with all games scheduled for seven innings.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Angelo State sophomore Margaux Rene will represent the Rambelles at the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia beginning today and continuing through Oct. 19 — she was selected after a strong run at the ITA South Central Regional and will face Alina Kupfer in the Round of 16 at 11:30 a.m.  San Angelo LIVE!
