ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Channel catfish were stocked into the Concho River in downtown San Angelo on Friday, Oct. 17—this release was the second-to-last stocking of the year before a final release on Oct. 31 through the TPWD Neighborhood Fishin’ program.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Angelo State University will pay tuition and fees for active-duty military students if their federal Tuition Assistance is halted during the government shutdown. Students enrolled in 8-week online courses starting Fall B on Oct. 20 can re-register if dropped, with costs reaching up to $85,000—covered by the ASU President's Circle and private donations.  San Angelo LIVE!

SPORTS NEWS

  • Reigning PRCA world champion tie-down roper Riley Webb will face retired four-time champion Caleb Smidt in a match roping event on Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. The contest will involve 12 runs in a rematch from last year—tickets are available at local outlets as part of the Cinch Roping Fiesta in San Angelo.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The Central Bobcats (3-3) traveled to Odessa to play a crucial District 2-6A matchup against the Odessa Permian Panthers (5-1) on Friday night. Both teams were tied at 21-21 at halftime after key drives and a 90-yard interception return.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The undefeated Wall Hawks—state title contenders—dominated one-loss Coahoma with a 58-0 shutout on Friday while Brady Neal scored three touchdowns and Jager Thompson returned an interception 70 yards. Wall Hawks now have eight wins and zero losses and will host Grape Creek next week while Coahoma recovers during a bye week before traveling to Stanton on Oct. 31.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Angelo State’s Margaux Rene lost in the ITA Cup quarterfinals on Friday morning to Alyssa Novoa of Rollins, 3-6, 6-7 (2-7); she won her opening match against Alina Kupfer on Thursday and will play next on Oct. 24 (at the New Mexico State Invite).  San Angelo LIVE!
