COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Jim Bass Ford and San Angelo Live host their annual Fall Festival for Children with Special Needs at Jim Bass on Houston Harte Expressway from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. — The free event offers games, a hay ride, a cupcake walk, trunk-or-treat, and refreshments to children with special needs and their families.  San Angelo LIVE!

BUSINESS NEWS

  • JD Sports is planning to open a new store at the Sunset Mall at 4001 Sunset Drive in San Angelo. Construction began in the storefront and jobs for store associates — management roles have been posted online as the city received a $1.2 million permit for the project.  San Angelo Standard-Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A cold front is moving into San Angelo early today with temperatures dropping to the 70s and wind gusts reaching 30 mph while forecasts show Halloween will have a high of 75 and cooler trick-or-treat conditions after 7 p.m.—residents should prepare for a mix of chilly and mild weather this week.  San Angelo Standard-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department said on Monday it will stock eight community fishing lakes in West Texas this week as its final fish delivery of the year. One lake on Oakes Street in San Angelo will be stocked on Oct. 31, and anglers can keep up to five fish per day with a valid license—youths under 17 do not need one.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The Texas Department of Public Safety is urging Texans to lock up firearms, check candy carefully, and wear bright gear this Halloween to keep children safe—DPS also advises drivers to slow down, buckle up, and avoid distractions on local roads as part of its 90 Days of Safety campaign.  San Angelo LIVE!

HEALTH NEWS

  • Stephen Bright from San Angelo was hospitalized in Virginia after emergency abdominal surgery and now faces complications while his family is stranded with mounting bills and lost income. His food truck business has canceled over 15 events and his wife has been unable to work—help is sought through a GoFundMe campaign.  San Angelo LIVE!

SPORTS NEWS

  • Angelo State baseball program will host its annual Lone Star Winter Showcase Camp on Saturday, Dec. 6 at Foster Field for high school players ages 15 to 19 to sharpen their skills and be evaluated by college coaches under Head Coach Kevin Brooks—registration costs $150 and space is limited.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Angelo State Rams delivered a shut-out win over Sul Ross State, 62-0, on Saturday in Alpine and Head Coach Jeff Girsch said he respects No. 8 Central Washington—an undefeated 7–1 team—as the team prepares to travel to Ellensburg on Saturday with kickoff at 8 p.m. CT.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The Central Bobcats rallied from a 10-point deficit to beat Midland High 34+27 after their game was rescheduled from Friday to Saturday. Zey Johnson recorded 117 rushing yards and two touchdowns + the team is 1-2 in district play as they prepare for a Friday visit to Odessa High.  KWFR
  • Texas Football released its high school state rankings for Week 10—showing the top teams in the sport. Coaches and fans will use the rankings to plan for upcoming games.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The latest West Texas high school football standings show Permian at 3–0 while San Angelo TLCA remains winless at 0–3 after a 50–0 loss to Jim Ned. Teams are set to play this week—Legacy visits Midland and TLCA will host Comanche—as various districts report close scores and competitive records.  San Angelo LIVE!
