ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Former San Angelo Standard-Times sportswriter Carlos Mendez, 57, died at an Arlington hospital on Nov. 7 after being hit by an SUV while jogging near his home on Oct. 27 — police said the driver stopped at the scene and no charges were filed.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • John Ernest Schwartz, the first chief of Wall Volunteer Fire Department, died in a crash on Nov. 10 at 7:48 p.m. when his 2022 GMC Sierra failed to yield at a yield sign on Debus Road between San Angelo and Wall—he was 88 and not wearing a seatbelt when struck by a westbound SUV.  San Angelo Standard-Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Angelo State University's Low Brass Studio program will present its fall concert on Friday, Nov 14 at 7 p.m. (in the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building at 2602 Dena Drive) with performances by the ASU Trombone Choir and Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble (directed by Dr. JD Handshoe) as a free event.  San Angelo LIVE!

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department announced the final channel catfish stockings of the year in the Concho Valley as Richards Park in Brady was stocked Monday with 1,500 fish and Bell Street in San Angelo and Spring Creek in Mertzon will be stocked today with 2,000 and 1,000 fish respectively. Anglers may keep up to five fish per day and adults need a fishing license—rainbow trout will be stocked before Thanksgiving.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Veterans Day, the Texas Department of Public Safety honored more than 2,100 veterans—recognizing their continued service after military duty. The department currently employs 2,168 veterans who work in roles from law enforcement to emergency response.  San Angelo LIVE!

HEALTH NEWS

  • Heart transplant recipient Sarah Pipkin-Love began a 500-mile bike tour on November 2 to raise awareness for organ donation—she rides through Canyon, Snyder, Abilene, San Angelo and Fredericksburg in honor of donor Dylan Roberts. Born in San Angelo, she now coaches and teaches while sharing her story of how a selfless gift changed her life.  San Angelo Standard-Times

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A complaint about repeated elevator malfunctions at Roosevelt Lofts in downtown San Angelo raised safety concerns when residents were trapped on upper floors—no injuries were reported. Management said the equipment was inspected before the grand opening on Sept. 25 and that an elevator service company is now evaluating the issue.  San Angelo LIVE!
