COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Cyclists from the Lone Star Circle of Life Bike Tour visited Lake View High School last week to share how blood, marrow, stem-cell, organ and tissue donation can save lives — former student Sarah Pipkin-Love and organizer Monica Robles told students that one choice can make a big impact.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • St. Juanita Retirement & Rehab will unveil a colorful new sheep sculpture named Juanita by Chrystal Goodman on Nov 20 at 4 p.m. at 3215 YMCA Drive, where refreshments will be served to connect the community with the facility.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Goodfellow Air Force Base will host its 43rd annual Santa’s Market and 3rd annual Open House at the Fire Academy High Bay on November 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with visitors without ID cards entering through the Crash Gate on S. Chadbourne St.—over 70 local and state vendors will sell handmade goods and food, and Santa Claus along with fire academy demos will be featured.  San Angelo LIVE!

CULTURE NEWS

  • ASU Wind Ensemble will hold its final fall concert on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 2:30 p.m. at ASU's Elta Joyce Murphey Auditorium in the Mayer Administration Building—featuring works by Grainger, Bernstein, Lauridsen, and others—and the free event is open to the public. The ensemble will begin a three-day recruiting tour—stopping at eight high schools in San Antonio—on Monday, Nov. 17.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Fort Concho’s 44th Christmas festival will run from Dec. 5 through 7 on a 40-acre site with new attractions and classic events—like shopping, live entertainment, parades, and food vendors. The event will serve as the fort’s largest fundraiser and feature programs such as a cowboy meal camp, a historic music exhibit, and a gingerbread house contest—highlighting its long tradition as a community celebration.  San Angelo Standard-Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Nov 10, the San Angelo ISD board met to review campus construction progress, UIL realignment, and a faster drop in enrollment that could lead to budget and facility changes. They previewed upcoming agenda items including construction updates and academic reports for the next meeting.  San Angelo LIVE!

SPORTS NEWS

  • San Angelo Central will face the No. 1-ranked Southlake Carroll in the second playoff round at 7 p.m. Friday, November 21 at Art Briles Stadium in Stephenville. The Bobcats advanced with a 24-14 win over El Paso Pebble Hills—improving from a one-win season to an 8-3 record and carrying a four-game winning streak.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • On Thursday, the No. 2-ranked Water Valley Wildcats won 62-14 over Hermleigh and now move to the regional round—Mason won 55-21 over Marlin, Richland Springs beat Calvert 62-0, and Stamford edged Sonora 31-2 to set up their next playoff matchups.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • In a rematch of their Week 3 game, the Robert Lee Steers beat Ira 60—14 last Friday to secure their first playoff trophy since 2012. The No. 6 team improved to 10—1 and will face Turkey Valley next week in the regional round at a time to be determined.  San Angelo LIVE!
