COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Several local organizations met today for Navigation Day during Hunger and Homelessness Week to shine a light on homelessness challenges and connect people with support—organizers plan to expand outreach in coming days.  FOX West Texas
  • San Angelo will host its Concho Christmas events in early December with the Tour of Lights, tree lighting ceremony, and parade. The Tour of Lights will open on Dec. 5 with a drive-through display along the Concho River running nightly until Dec. 31—while the tree lighting at 5:15 p.m. and parade from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. are set for Dec. 6.  San Angelo LIVE!

CULTURE NEWS

  • Angelo State University music and voice majors will perform 'Moves and Counter Moves' tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building, where they will present scenes from popular operas in a free event — directed by Dr. Mark Covey-Barrera with pianist Dr. Eun Mi Lee.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • San Angelo city council approved funds on Tuesday for a $103,700 project to update one of the first theaters in town at 121 N. Chadbourne St.—the project will clean the facade by replacing windows, adding lighting and doors, and rebuilding the top section so the building may become a cheer gym later. Aaron Vannoy from planning and development services said the funds from the TIRZ are reinvested in the community to improve local historic sites.  San Angelo Standard-Times
  • San Angelo State Park reminds visitors and local photographers that its 30th anniversary photo contest accepts entries until 11:59 p.m. CT on Nov. 30—photos must capture park subjects like scenic views, wildlife and historic moments. Park staff will select finalists and the public will vote to choose the winning image to be featured on the park’s social media and website.  KWFR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local base leaders and community members will serve Thanksgiving meals at Crossroads at Goodfellow AFB for active-duty service members in training on Friday, November 21 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Chapel staff will host the meal for about 300 to 400 trainees — those unable to travel home — and offer food and fellowship during the holiday — a warm home away from home.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Governor Greg Abbott activated state emergency crews to support communities in Texas facing heavy rain, flooding and severe weather starting tomorrow—he directed teams and rescue assets including helicopters and swiftwater boats to aid local response efforts. Texans are urged to check weather updates and follow local guidance on emergency preparations.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • City Manager Daniel Valenzuela — set to retire next year — will ride a Texas Pacífico engine to the Railway Museum for the Santa Fe Christmas event on Dec. 13 at 10 a.m. as his wife Suzanna becomes Mrs. Claus, drawing on her longtime role with the museum board.  San Angelo Standard-Times

  • The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches released the weekly high school boys basketball state rankings for Nov 17—covering teams from Class 6A to Class 1A. The list shows school records and top spots, including SA Brennan with a 1—0 record in Class 6A, along with many schools from across Texas.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches released this week’s Texas high school girls basketball state rankings that placed Pearland Dawson at the top of Class 6A and Argyle leading Class 5A—rankings for Classes 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A were also published.  San Angelo LIVE!
