  • A Central Texas family from Axtell is looking for a special Christmas ornament that honored their late sister after a storage unit sale led to its loss — the heirloom held decades of family memories and was key to their Christmas traditions.   • Goodfellow Air Force Base will open its gates on Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the 43rd annual Santa’s Market and the 3rd annual Open House inside the Fire Academy High Bay, where over 70 Texas merchants will offer handcrafted holiday items and live demonstrations from the Fire Academy and military working dog team — Santa Claus will appear from 1 to 3 p.m. for free photo opportunities.  FOX West Texas

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Angelo State University will host its fourth annual Fall Student Research Symposium on Nov. 21 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Houston Harte University Center, where 40 ASU students selected through a competitive process will present 19 research projects + serve light refreshments for public engagement.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • San Angelo ISD leaders reported Monday that data show about 50% of kindergarteners scored well below reading benchmarks on the mCLASS test. Board members noted that bilingual pre-K students performed better with 24% scoring below benchmark compared to 60% in general pre-K—raising a community concern that calls for more support from families and local groups.  San Angelo LIVE!

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New data from Texas Parks & Wildlife shows largemouth bass at O.H. Ivie Reservoir reached the highest numbers in five years due to strong forage species and recent water increases. Biologists reported that fish were in better condition with a healthy food base — evidence from charts comparing 2023, 2024, and 2025.  San Angelo LIVE!

  • Governor Abbott has directed TDEM to raise the state emergency operations center’s readiness to Level III today as severe storms bring risks of flash flooding, hail, strong winds and tornadoes—state agencies including the National Guard and Department of Transportation are on standby to support local officials.  San Angelo LIVE!

  • The San Angelo/Tom Green County Health Department released inspection scores for food establishments from Nov. 2-8, showing several businesses earned perfect scores & others received high to moderate marks during routine checks on food safety.  San Angelo Standard-Times
