COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Thursday, the Children’s Advocacy Center of Greater West Texas received a $633,000 donation from Reagan County’s Friends for Hope Coalition, with Reagan County Sheriff Jeff Garner noting the center’s role in supporting child abuse investigations over 28 years. The center, established in 1991 and serving multiple counties, is located at 3418 Town and Country Drive.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The 32nd Annual Tour of Lights will begin soon in San Angelo, featuring a 2.5-mile drive along the Concho River with 3 million lights and 78 oversized greeting cards — a tradition installed by inmates for six years — and will run nightly from Dec. 5 to Dec. 31. The celebration will also feature a tree lighting at 5:15 p.m. and a Christmas parade at 6 p.m. on Dec. 6, with entry at Bryant Boulevard and First Street — organizers suggest an $8 donation per car — and a Bike through the Lights ride at 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 7.  San Angelo Standard-Times

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Vivid Sky, a new specialty shop with Hello Kitty, Labubu and other designer collectibles, will hold a soft opening this Saturday at 228 S. Chadbourne St. The shop will open on weekends from noon to 7 p.m.—its owners plan to extend hours soon.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Retailers in San Angelo will open on Black Friday at different times, with Target, Walmart, Home Depot, and Lowe’s opening at 6 a.m. while Sunset Mall, Marshall's, and HomeGoods begin at 7 a.m.; Marshall's will operate from 7 a.m.-10 p.m. and Kohl's will host in-store events on that day.  San Angelo Standard-Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Angelo State University earned national recognition as No. 2 on the Military Times Best for Vets College rankings — the school also received top honors from veteran support groups for its services to military students and families.  San Angelo LIVE!

HEALTH NEWS

  • Two white-tailed deer at a Tom Green County breeding facility owned by Ken Schlaudt tested positive for chronic wasting disease as confirmed by state and federal labs — the facility is one of several linked to the Ghost Deer investigation that found deer smuggling and testing violations.  San Angelo LIVE!

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Several restaurants in San Angelo will be open on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, offering options from quick drive-thru coffee to full meals. Customers are advised to call ahead as demand is expected to be high—choices include fast service spots and restaurants serving a special Thanksgiving meal.  San Angelo Standard-Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • San Angelo Lake View running back Izaiah Rios was named Co-MVP of District 3-4A Division I — sharing the honor with Andrews RB JaeSean DeBouse. He finished his standout season with 1,495 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns as the Chiefs achieved their winningest season in 29 years — ending with a 7-4 record.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Angelo State's football team earned 17 Lone Star Conference honors this season. Xavier Walton was named Defensive Back of the Year after making six interceptions—three players were named to the All-LSC First Team and ten received honorable mention.  San Angelo LIVE!
