COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local volunteers will collect cookies for Goodfellow service members who are away this Christmas season—donations will be accepted at San Angelo’s Chamber of Commerce on Dec 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and at the Powell Event Center on Dec 2 and 3 from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m., with volunteers packing cookies and distribution set to begin on Dec 4.  San Angelo Standard-Times
  • Concho Valley PAWS seized 32 dogs from a crowded trailer in Bronte during an eviction and saved 19 dogs—including 12 bottle-fed infants, six juveniles, and one adult—and now the rescue urgently needs fosters with experience in caring for young puppies.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Dozens watched as a rehab and retirement facility unveiled the newest sheep statue for Downtown San Angelo Inc.'s growing outdoor collection. The event added another piece for local residents to enjoy.  FOX West Texas

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Texas-based Layne’s Chicken plans to expand into San Angelo as part of a West Texas rollout that will see up to 44 new restaurants open starting in 2026. The deal with C5 Restaurants already booked sites in San Antonio and Lubbock—sites for San Angelo have not yet been announced.  San Angelo LIVE!

CRIME NEWS

  • Angelo State University reported that a student was found deceased in a residence hall on Monday morning—campus and local authorities are investigating the incident and confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the community.  KWFR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Angelo State University is opening two free exhibits in December that show graduating art students’ work at Gallery 193 in the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building at 2602 Dena Drive. The first exhibit runs from Dec. 1 to Dec. 5 and the second from Dec. 8 to Dec. 12, with both open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.—the displays feature projects in graphic design, painting, and drawing.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Christmas at Old Fort Concho in San Angelo will take place Dec. 5-7 and will offer designated parking, timed entry sessions for smaller crowds, family events like a pancake breakfast on Saturday and a free musical night later that evening (allowing guests to enjoy indoor activities regardless of the weather).  San Angelo Standard-Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Angelo State University’s chemistry and biochemistry programs received a $165,000 grant from the Welch Foundation to support student and faculty research. The department will receive $55,000 a year for three years—funding undergraduate projects, faculty studies and travel for meetings at regional and national events.  KWFR

SPORTS NEWS

  • Angelo State Rams basketball bounced back from their previous low scoring game with a 70-54 win over Texas A&M-International in Laredo. Jaqai Murray led the team with 24 points and 10 rebounds as the Rams improved to 6-1 and will play two games at the West Texas A&M Thanksgiving Classic in Canyon.  KWFR
  • The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches posted this week’s boys high school basketball state rankings, showing win and loss records from Classes 6A to 1A (including two Concho Valley schools). Duncanville leads Class 6A with a 2–0 record (and rankings list 25 teams per class) as the standings set the stage for upcoming contests.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Angelo State volleyball earned the No. 3 seed for the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament next week and aims to extend its 11-match winning streak—starting play in Denver on Dec. 4 with a rematch against Lubbock Christian.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The undefeated Junction Eagles (No.4) will face the unbeaten Granger Lions (No.6) in the Class 2A Division II regional semifinals on Friday, Nov.28 at 7 p.m. in Johnson City. The Eagles have beaten tough teams this season and both squads will use their strong playoff runs to aim for victory.  San Angelo LIVE!
