COMMUNITY NEWS

  • San Angelo hosts a range of Christmas events this week starting with today's ASU tree lighting at the Mayer Museum at 4 p.m. and continuing with the Tour of Lights opening Dec. 5, a community tree lighting and parade on Dec. 6, and Christmas at Old Fort Concho running Dec. 5–7 featuring reenactments, food, and music — all free and designed for families and visitors to enjoy the season.  San Angelo LIVE!

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Texas Tech System introduced a course review process that requires faculty to submit course materials for verification when they include content on banned topics — the new guidelines apply to its five universities, including the one in San Angelo. Faculty must follow these standards to meet state and federal laws after the passage of Senate Bill 37.  San Angelo Standard-Times
  • Angelo State University's Mu Gamma chapter of KDP received the 2025 Achieving Chapter Excellence Award and the 2025 Dr. Florence B. Stratemeyer Award for highest chapter performance during the 2024—25 academic year—only seven chapters earned the ACE Award in total.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • After 20 years at its Taylor Street location, San Angelo Broadway Academy announced that it will move downtown to 106 S. Chadbourne St in January 2026—consolidating its studios and ending 2025 classes on Taylor Street before beginning spring classes on January 19.  San Angelo Standard-Times
  • Angelo State University identified Robert 'RJ' King—a freshman Agricultural Science and Leadership major from Caldwell—as the student found deceased in a campus residence hall, and the university will hang a flag in his memory while honoring him during Homecoming Week. SPORTS NEWS

  • Major Hopper, a 15-year-old San Angelo angler, broke the junior flathead catfish record at Lake Nasworthy by catching a 25.45-pound fish, and the record is pending official certification as he released the fish back into the lake.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • After a breakthrough season, the Central Bobcats had six players named to the All-District 2-6A first team — running back Zeyvion Johnson, tight end Casner Stribling, wide receiver Colton Hill, offensive lineman Ethan Boyd, linebacker Mason Van Sickle, and safety Jaekob Jackson — and finished with an 8-4 record, a first-round playoff win over El Paso Pebble Hills, and a second-round loss to top-ranked Southlake Carroll.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches released this week's state rankings for girls high school basketball, with Austin Westlake leading Class 6A at 11-0. The list details win–loss records across all six classes—reflecting updated season standings.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The No.2 ranked Wall Hawks will face the Idalou Wildcats in the state quarterfinals at 6:00 p.m. Friday at San Angelo Stadium + the rematch will test Wall's strong defense + the winner will move on to the state semifinals.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches released this week's boys high school basketball state rankings that list teams in Classes 6A, 5A, 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A by their win and loss records. Duncanville tops Class 6A with a record of 4 to 0 and Bmt United leads Class 5A with a record of 6 to 0—rankings show full team standings from across the state.  San Angelo LIVE!
