COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The annual wreath-laying ceremony (part of National Wreaths Across America Day) will be held Saturday at Belvedere Memorial Park, 3504 Arden Road, as Civil Air Patrol’s San Angelo Composite Squadron and Texas Leadership Cadet Squadron host the event and invite the public to honor fallen service members by placing a wreath on veteran graves.  San Angelo Standard-Times
  • Flood relief is available in San Angelo as Concho Valley Together partners with World Renew to offer needs assessments for households hurt by the July 4 floods; victims may visit the CVCAC at 133 W Concho Ave from 9 a.m.+4 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m.+noon Saturdays through Dec. 17.  San Angelo Standard-Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Legendary rock band ZZ Top will kick off their new tour on March 21 at the Back Porch of Texas in Abilene. The tour will include stops in Amarillo on March 22 and in San Antonio from April 9 to 10 so fans from nearby can catch the show.  San Angelo LIVE!

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Twenty-two Angelo State University student-athletes and assistants will graduate at Winter Commencement ceremonies inside the Junell Center (Stephens Arena) this weekend. They represent seven athletics programs and multiple academic disciplines across campus.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Thirty-six new citizens took the oath at Angelo State University’s C.J. Davidson Conference Center on Wednesday morning + applicants from 12 countries received citizenship certificates along with seven approved name-change petitions.  San Angelo LIVE!

SPORTS NEWS

  • San Angelo’s tie-down roper Joel Harris won a round at the National Finals Rodeo on Wednesday in Las Vegas by roping his calf in 7.5 seconds to earn $36,668 and move into third overall. His win pushed his season earnings to $288,064.06.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • San Angelo Central boys basketball lost 73-70 in Hobbs on Tuesday night, ending their undefeated start. The Bobcats will travel Friday to Argyle and host No. 1 Jayton on Jan. 6.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The No. 1-ranked Wall girls basketball team lost their game Tuesday to No. 2 Canyon in Lubbock, falling to 12-2 while Canyon improved to 12-1. Wall will play against Wink Thursday in the Andrews Tournament.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Division II football sees two key matchups this weekend as the Gruver Greyhounds take on the Muenster Hornets at 6 p.m. today in Canyon + the Shiner Comanches face the Mount Enterprise Wildcats at 7 p.m. Friday at Randall Reed Stadium in New Caney.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Angelo State junior outside hitter Madi Parrish was named a First Team All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association and earned Third Team honors from the D2CCA after a season with 435 kills — she joins only six other Belles to win multiple All-America awards.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Former San Angelo Lake View QB John David Baker is the new offensive coordinator at Ole Miss, leaving East Carolina after two seasons and returning to Mississippi (2021-23) where he also coached as tight ends coach and co-offensive coordinator at USC and North Texas.  KWFR
